our story

bakehouse chalkboardSerious Delights opened during Decemeber of 2003, in the little green house directly adjacent to Durango Natural Foods. The house had been a residential rental; with some friends we rebuilt it into a licensed commercial food kitchen. At first, we prepared wholesale desserts for several local restaurants.

In the spring of 2004, Joe Lloyd approached us about a new coffee shop he was planning to open: Durango Joe’s. Soon, we were providing pastries for nearly every locally owned coffee shop, from Magpies and Durango Coffee Company to The Steaming Bean and Upper Eastside Coffee. 2004 was also our first year at the Durango Farmers Market… That first year we would pack our baked goods into five or six bakery boxes–these days, we use an eighty square foot cargo trailer to haul down the hundreds of treats market shoppers devour each Saturday morning!

Our business underwent a major expansion in the fall of 2008, when we opened our current retail location inside of Nature’s Oasis Market. Jeff and Sherri Watson offered us this opportunity and have been generous partners in our success ever since.

Today we are proud of how much we have accomplished and eager to do more. We love being able to give back to the community and to be a part of local agriculture. We give thanks to our customers for their past and present support, and hope for their loyalty in the future!
